Another day, another bit of distracting political grandstanding! You have probably already read that the Supreme Court of Colorado has removed Donald Trump from the 2024 presidential ballot. Liberals ran to Twitter to say that democracy had been saved even before The Babylon Bee could write the painfully obvious headline, "Colorado Saves Democracy By Not Allowing People To Vote For Preferred Candidate".

It is possible the ruling will backfire on Democrats. Removing Donald Trump from the Colorado ballot may create a scenario where Robert Kennedy wins the state as an independent, depriving Biden of 10 valuable electoral votes. Additionally, there is only the slimmest possible chance that this ruling by the Supreme Court of Colorado will be upheld by the Supreme Court of the United States. After all, they are removing Donald Trump from the ballot on the grounds that he is an insurrectionist, which he has yet to be accused, tried, or convicted of. A million Redditors and columnists pushing this verdict does not make it a legal reality, and Colorado's judges do not have jurisdiction over federal cases, not even federal cases that have yet to be filed.

But it does bring up an interesting point that bears looking at. These judges are pointing directly at Section 3 of the 14th Amendment. Let's have a look at it ourselves:

"No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any state, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any state legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any state, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability."

Instead of getting information from political activist journalists or Tweeters (or even us at T.REX ARMS), it is always well worth it to do a little reading of the Constitution yourself to see what it actually says. Obviously, those who have tried to overthrow the Federal government or rebel against the Constitution are prohibited from holding office in that government unless Congress so allows. But if we continue reading, we come to a very interesting phrase that could easily be overlooked. To give "aid or comfort to the enemies" of our government and Constitution is something that hasn't been discussed very deeply of late. It could cover a lot of actions, including, for instance, giving considerable money or abandoning large stores of military arms and materiel to people or nations who are hostile to our Constitution. Now that this can of 14th Amendment worms is open, perhaps we should dig in.

At the end of the day, the Colorado ruling is simply an act of offensive political theater since there was no chance that Trump would ever win Colorado in 2024. This extreme ruling serves no purpose but to be yet another painful wedge between Americans who are continually hammered on by political activist judges and political activist journalists. It is the most recent in a long cavalcade of incredibly divisive actions bombarding us. From the White House ordering the destruction of Arlington Cemetery's Reconciliation Memorial to the furor over Christian political candidates and satanic statues in state houses, it is an unending stream of greater and greater demands for more disunity and more strife.

And it comes at a time when most of us are going home for Christmas. We are going to be eating and celebrating together with relatives and inevitably discussing these various political stunts that attempt to further divide us as a nation. Check out our most recent podcast episode on how to graciously have some of these conversations.

Let us set aside as much division as possible and seek peace. Let us ignore the constant stream of invectives coming from our would-be political masters and remember that this is the season where we celebrate the coming of the King of Kings and the Prince of Peace Himself:

"He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence. For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell, and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross." (Colossians 1:15-20)

The Gospel is a healing message that should be proclaimed boldly. A message of life and peace that will bring far more unity than any political activism. And so, from T.REX ARMS, we wish you a very merry Christmas!
